Taste of Kohola

Maui Ocean Center’s Taste of Koholā Brewery fundraising event raised over $3,000 to benefit the Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute (MOCMI) and Maui’s Voyaging Society, Hui O Wa’a Kaulua. Turtle Hatchlings

Maui Ocean Center is proud to announce the newest addition to its sea turtle ‘ohana: six Hawaiian green sea turtle hatchlings. The hatchlings were relocated from a nesting colony at Sea Life Park Hawaii to the Aquarium where they will reside for the next two years as ambassadors of their species until their release to the ocean.

Turtle Release

On August 30, 2018, Maui Ocean Center released two Hawaiian green sea turtles into Maui’s coastal waters. These honu (turtles) were hatched at Sea Life Park Hawaii and raised at Maui Ocean Center as ambassadors of their species, educating guests about Hawaii’s sea turtles and the challenges they face in the wild.

Mo‘okiha O Pi‘ilani

“He wa‘a he moku, he moku he waʻa – the canoe is an island, the island is a canoe.” The Mo‘okia O Pi‘ilani is Maui’s first voyaging canoe built in over 600 years, serving as a gateway into the world of Polynesian wayfinding and navigation. In partnership with Maui Ocean Center and Hawaii Tourism Authority, the Hui O Wa‘a Kaulua now offers tours of this historic canoe.

Storm Drain Stencil

On Sunday, August 12th, Maui Ocean Center hosted a storm drain stenciling and cleanup event in Ma‘alaea, Maui. Joined by community volunteers, the Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute, and honored guest Mayor Alan Arakawa, the collaborative effort resulted in 19 stenciled storm drains and 2,827 pieces of collected trash.
