Salary: starting at $120,000 full-time

Position Summary

Reports to the General Manager; evaluate, plan, set objectives, and strategic directions for the

Marketing Department of Maui Ocean Center to include all aspects of digital, advertising, promotions,

events, public relations, sponsorship and sales.

Key Responsibilities

Working with the General Manager responsible in driving the visitation and profitability of Maui

Ocean Center

Formulate policies and objectives to ensure professional and successful marketing program for

Maui Ocean Center.

Develop and submit the annual operating budget for the Marketing Department to the General

Manager for approval.

Supervises and manages all aspects of the Marketing Team. Build and manage the Team for the

success.

Develop and or direct the development of operational and procedural manuals for all divisions

within the Marketing Department. Implement and continually monitor these programs to ensure

that all policies and procedures are appropriately and effectively implemented at all times.

Develop and maintain institutional memory.

Supervise the purchase of supplies and materials necessary for the efficient operation of the

Marketing Department.

Trains the staff in guest relations and the skills necessary to be the most effective in their areas

of responsibility.

Build strategic partnerships and alliances aligned with Maui Ocean Center marketing programs.

Communicate and maintain working relationships with guests, staff, other departments,

suppliers, professional associations and colleagues in related industries.

Maintain awareness of industry related activities and trends, including subscriptions to trade

publications, associations with industry colleagues. Create visibility for Maui Ocean Center

brand and participate in industry related conventions, conferences and seminars and maintain

awareness of industry related activities and trends.

Supervise the daily operation of the department’s function, continually evaluating the operation

and taking the appropriate action for improvement where necessary.

Participate in facility staff meetings and provide recommendations for improving Maui Ocean

Center. Recommend short and long term goals for the company.

Establish and maintain all attendance, ticket revenue and ticket per capita goals for the

aquarium.

Write the annual marketing plan to include established goals, evaluating past trends, strategic

direction, program priorities, timetables and budgets for the year.

Develop and submit to the General Manager the recommended pricing and program mix

structure for the aquarium, reflecting the overall direction designed to accomplish the

company’s goals.

Organize the sales regions as necessary to maximize attendance from all demographic,

organizational and geographical markets within the aquarium’s target marketing region; direct

the sales programs necessary to develop these opportunities.

Supervise the formation and maintenance of a system for recruiting, hiring, training, developing

and evaluating all marketing and sales personnel. Plan and conduct periodic staff meeting for the purpose of directing, informing, planning,

training and motivating according to priorities.

Direct and modify and or eliminate marketing and sales programs based on their profitability

and potential within the marketing objectives.

Have a keen situational awareness

Develop and maintain all the channels and segments

Direct creative teams in the development of programs and materials for all advertising,

promotions, education, public relations, sales and sponsorship.

Approve travel and other expenditures and review all monthly expense budget reports for the

department.

Supervise the activities of any selected advertising agency and or vendors to assure

professionalism and effectiveness of the advertising program set forth.

Supervise the activities of the public relations division and any public relations firm utilized to

assure professionalism and effectiveness of the public relations program set forth.

Conduct market research to obtain adequate information relating to guest and market

preference, attitude, need and expectation. Constant calibration of our dynamic model.

Supervise and coordinate the activities of advertising, promotions, education, public relations,

sales and sponsorship within the department. Assure that the pre-established attendance and

financial goals of the company are being achieved and make recommendations for achieving the

established goals. Ensure that each division within the Marketing Department develops and

implements the plans and programs designed to reach the objectives.

Undertakes special projects as assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications & Skills

• Minimum of seven to ten years’ experience in attraction marketing or related field. Digital

competence and creativity. College degree in marketing preferred. Strong leadership and

management skills required.
