LOVE OUR REEF

With support from the Maui Huliau Foundation, this short film about reef-safe sunscreen was written, filmed, and edited by Jadda Miller’s 7th-grade science classes at Kīhei Charter School. Students felt inspired to do something after completing a research project about sunscreen available in stores on Maui and conducting in-person interviews on the beach to find out which sunscreens people were using. Students discovered that many people are confused about which sunscreens are truly safe for the reef. Miller’s students made this film to explore ways to communicate the difference between chemical-based (not reef safe) and mineral-based (reef-safe) sunscreen. We encourage everyone to share the information in this video with friends and family as an act of Ocean Aloha.
