Maui Ocean Center is thrilled to welcome the community back in person for the 11th annual Maui 5K Run and Walk on Sunday, March 6, 2022! The event will begin at 7 am and wrap up at 10 am HST.
Maui Ocean Center is proud to be the title sponsor for the Maui 5K Run and Walk for the third consecutive year. Join in to support Maui nui schools, reconnect with the community, and celebrate the outdoors at this family-friendly event. Participants will have the option to take part in a timed 5K run/walk or an untimed 1-mile walk for everyone from keiki (children) to kūpuna (elders). For those who can’t make it in-person, the virtual 5K and 1-mile walk are also available.
The Maui 5K Run For Fitness was born from a desire to give back to community schools while getting kids — and their parents — out of the house in a fun, safe, accessible, and active way.
Arlene and John Emerson are the passionate runners behind the 501(c)(3) organization Maui 5K Run For Fitness, but their journey began when Oʻahu’s Nike 5K for Kids run ended in 2009. These community philanthropists couldn’t bear to see local schools go without the funds that this race was generating for them, so they launched the Honolulu 5K in 2010 to keep the ball rolling. A year later, the pair moved things over to Maui and have been hosting their fundraising event here ever since.
Proceeds from the 5K will go directly to the community, providing schools with funding to expand our keiki’s physical education, fitness, and athletic programs county-wide.
Registration is open until 11:59 pm HST on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Sign up before February 22, 2022, to reserve an event t-shirt in your size. Event registration is $30 for the 5K run and $25 for the 1-mile run/walk (each event has an additional minimal sign-up fee).
Each registrant can indicate which school they’d like to support on their registration form. All Maui nui schools — public and private — are welcome to register!
