Position Summary

Are you passionate about the ocean and love sharing your knowledge with others? Maui Ocean Center is looking for a Head Naturalist to lead and inspire our Marine Naturalist team! This role combines leadership, education, and guest engagement to create unforgettable experiences for our visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead, coach, and mentor our Marine Naturalist team to deliver high-quality presentations and guest interactions.
Step in as a back-up Marine Naturalist for tours, presentations, special programs, and community events.
Support and help develop programs like day camps, sleepovers, Sea Talks, outreach, and evening events.
Work closely with our Education and Curatorial teams to create engaging, science-based learning experiences.
Assist with scheduling, payroll, program development, and departmental needs.
Occasionally serve as Manager on Duty and represent the Education team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Education, or related field.
At least 1 year of experience in ecotourism, education, or environmental science.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and coach a team.
Excellent public speaking and guest service skills.
Proficiency in computer applications for data collection, reporting, and content creation.
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnights.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening

Work Environment:

Active, guest-facing role requiring standing, walking, and occasional lifting/setup of materials
Communicating with guests and colleagues throughout the day
