Position Title: Life Support System Manager
Reports to: Curatorial Director
Salary Range: starting at $52,000 full-time exempt
Location: Maui Ocean Center, Wailuku, Maui

Our mission is to inspire conservation through engaging exhibits and educational programs. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Life Support System Manager to ensure the health and well-being of the animals in our care.
The Life Support System Manager will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all life support systems within the aquarium. This role involves overseeing for example the plumbing of exhibits, water pumps, electrical issues with exhibit lights and other critical equipment to ensure a healthy and stable environment for our aquatic species. The ideal candidate will be open-minded, eager to learn, and capable of adapting to new technologies and methods as they evolve.
Maintain and Repair Equipment: Regularly inspect, maintain, and repair all life support systems, including filtration systems, water pumps, and plumbing to ensure optimal operation.
System Monitoring: Continuously monitor water quality and system performance. Make adjustments and perform troubleshooting as necessary to address any issues promptly.
Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule to minimize system downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance. Prepare and present reports as needed.
Collaboration: Work closely with other aquarium staff, including marine biologists and veterinarians, to address any issues related to water quality and system performance.
Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training programs and stay updated with advancements in life support technologies and techniques. Share knowledge and best practices with other team members.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of plumbing, water pumps, electrical and general handyman skills. Experience with life support systems in aquatic environments is a plus, but not required.
Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex issues related to life support systems.
Learning and Adaptability: Open-minded with a willingness to learn new techniques and technologies. Adaptable to evolving practices and equipment.
Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records and performing inspections.
Communication Skills: Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively within a team environment and communicate technical information to non-technical staff.
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in plumbing, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred.
Relevant work experience in maintenance, plumbing, or related fields. Experience in an aquarium or similar environment is advantageous but not required.
