‘Marine Science Night’ returns Aug. 23 with $10 admission

August 13, 2025

Maui Ocean Center will host its “Marine Science Night” from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, highlighting ocean-themed careers, internships and volunteer opportunities.

During the event, aquarists will talk with guests from inside the aquarium’s Surge Zone and Discovery Pool, while marine naturalists will offer an interactive coral feeding demonstration. Two diver presentations will be held at the 750,000-gallon Open Ocean exhibit, and marine science professionals will discuss their career paths in the Sphere Theater. There will also be live music and an art printing activity with Hex Press Maui.

“We are excited to bring back our ‘Marine Science Night’ to connect with students, parents and others interested in working to protect our oceans,” said Tiara Fernandez, the aquarium’s education director. “Eleven years ago, I started my career here at Maui Ocean Center as an intern. Now, we’re looking to inspire the next generation of marine conservationists.”

Community partners planning to participate during “Marine Science Night” include:

  • Maui Ocean Center Marine Institute
  • Maui Nui Seabird Recovery Project
  • DLNR’s Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) and Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE)
  • NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary
  • Pacific Whale Foundation
  • The Nature Conservancy
  • Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge

Admission to “Marine Science Night” is $10 per person (ages 3 and younger are free along with aquarium members). Food and drinks will be available for purchase at Reef Café. Get tickets now at mauioceancenter.com.
