DIRECT REPORT: Director of Retail

HOURS:

  • Part-time 20-34 hours per week (day shift, on call, weekends),
  • Full-time up to 40 hours per week (day shift, on call, weekends)


STARTING PAY: $19 an hour, plus shared commissions

Position Summary

Do you enjoy making sales and working with customers?  Do you thrive providing world-class customer service?  Are you self-motivated, and have fun and thrive in a fast-paced retail environment?  If you’re friendly, have knowledge of jewelry and have jewelry sales experience, and have a positive and upbeat attitude then we’re looking for you!  Our Retail Jewelry Consultants work along-side our Jewelry Manager to make and drive sales on a daily basis.  The Retail Jewelry Consultants also assist with keeping our sales floor neat, tidy, and restocked.  Our ideal Retail Jewelry Consultant candidate is someone who is flexible and who can also work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift.  Maui Ocean Treasures Gift Shop is the official gift shop of Maui Ocean Center. We are the most unique gift shop on Maui and we offer items that include apparel, books, marine-themed gifts, Hawaiʻi made culinary items, bath & body products, fine and costume jewelry, Pandora Jewelry, keiki toys, and so much more! We strive to provide exceptional customer service and to assist our guests with finding the perfect gift to commemorate their visit to Maui.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a knowledgeable and professional jewelry sales person
  • Be able to work as a team or as an individual to accomplish tasks
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50lbs or more and be able to stand for long periods of time in order to assist customers on the sales floor, as well as helping with restocking the sales floor and helping with various projects
  • Must be organized and maintain a clean and well-stocked cash wrap station and all other jewelry areas on a daily basis
  • Be willing and able to efficiently and accurately price merchandise and get it out to the sales floor in a timely manner
  • Must be comfortable working on a computer
  • Must be comfortable with processing credit card transactions
  • Have a sense of ownership and pride in the aquarium and Maui Ocean Treasures
  • Maintain upbeat, professional attitude
  • Conduct positive interactions with customers­ and fellow employees
  • Actively contribute to meeting daily sales goals
  • Help to make and drive sales on the sales floor
  • Help with various projects such as but not limited to cleaning, restocking, setting-up merchandise displays on the sales floor, counting, pricing merchandise, and any other projects or tasks given by Retail Director, Jewelry Manager, or Sales Leads
  • Help with prepping and performing cycle counts and physical inventories

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Trustworthy and responsible individual
  • Professional sales person
  • Great people skills, outgoing, and pleasant with the ability to provide excellent customer service daily
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Basic computer skills
  • Can use a calculator to add/subtract/percentages etc…
  • Self-Motivated & organized with attention to detail
  • Able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 – 9 hour shifts with breaks)
  • Can bend, stoop, and lift at least 50 lbs
  • Clear communication: this includes verbally and with reading/writing in the English language
  • Previous experience working in a retail jewelry environment
  • Experience working on a Point-Of-Sale (POS) system
  • Establish and maintain productive, professional relationships with other employees and effectively work as a team, as well as independently to perform all job requirements
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift
