It’s back! After a long hiatus, the opportunity to sleep with the sharks comes back to Maui Ocean Center with our exciting sleepover program. Keiki can bring their friends to sleep with sharks, rays and tropical fish in our Open Ocean Exhibit. Dream whilst surrounded in a world of marine wonders and create core memories for the whole ʻOhana!

 

Pricing and Participants

  • Fee: $125 per person (15% discount for members: $106.50)
  • Ages: 7-12 recommended (minimum age: 7, older children welcome)
  • Group Size: 15-40 participants
  • Chaperone Ratio: 1 adult (21+) per 8 children

Sample Schedule

Evening

  • 6:45 PM: Check-in
  • 7:00 PM: Orientation
  • 7:15 PM: Coral reef presentation and scavenger hunt
  • 7:45 PM: Group activities
  • 9:00 PM: Movie and snacks
  • 10:30 PM: Lights out

Morning

  • 6:30 AM: Wake-up
  • 7:10 AM: Assist with morning feedings
  • 8:00 AM: Breakfast
  • 8:30 AM: Educational activities
  • 9:30 AM: Program ends

  • Advance booking required (2 weeks for public, 30 days for private)
  • 50% deposit at booking, final payment 72 hours prior
  • No refunds for cancellations within 2 weeks
  • Permission slip required for all participants
 
 

2025 Public Sleepover Dates

Public sleepover dates are available one Friday per month*. Private sleepovers are available most dates with at least 30 days advance notice. Please contact us as early as possible due to staff scheduling for both public and private bookings.

FAQ's

Is there an age requirement for the sleepover?

All guests must be at least 7 years old. Sleep over activities are geared towards children ages 7-12.

What is the minimum and maximum number of people who can participate in a sleepover?

We need a minimum of 15 people for sleepovers. The maximum is 40 participants.

What is the adult to child ratio?

We require 1 adult for every 8 children.

Can activities for private sleepovers be customized?

Yes! We will be happy to work with your private group to tailor the evening to your requests.

What time is the sleepover?

The sleepover check-in time is 6:45pm and the program ends at 9:30am the next morning.

May I visit the park the next day?

Absolutely! Each participant receives complimentary entrance into the park the next day when the sleepover ends at 9:30am. You can enjoy the park all day if you wish!

How much does the sleepover cost?

The sleepover is $125.00 per person plus tax. This is the adult and child price. Maui Ocean Center members receive a 15% discount.

Can I bring my own food for the sleepover?

In general, outside food and drinks are not allowed during the event. An evening snack and continental breakfast are included in the price of each ticket.  If you have severe allergies, please contact us at (808) 270-7075.

Is there a smoking area?

The Maui Ocean Center is a smoke free facility per Hawai’i State Law. There is no smoking allowed on the premises.

Where will we be sleeping?

Guests will be sleeping on a carpeted surface in front of our large Open Ocean exhibit. If it is a very large group, some may need to sleep in our sea jellies room.

What should we bring?

  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping mat, twin sized air mattress or cot (optional)
  • Pillow
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, medications, hairbrush, etc.)
  • Sleep mask and ear plugs (optional)
  • Sleeping clothes (shirts and pants must be worn at all times)
  • Change of clothes
  • Closed toe shoes
  • Your sense of adventure!

Is there a discount for Annual memberships?

Yes! Be sure to mention that you have an annual pass when you contact us for reservations.  Have your card number(s) available.

Is alcohol allowed at sleepovers?

Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited with no exceptions.

When should we make reservations?

For group reservations, we recommend that you reserve your dates as early as possible. Once the available dates are fully committed, additional dates are not guaranteed. Reservations must be made at least 2 weeks prior to a scheduled sleepover.

What if the sleepover is cancelled?

  • The Maui Ocean Center reserves the right to cancel the sleepover at any time. However, we will do our best to notify participants no later than the day before the sleepover.  Refunds will be issued within 10 business days.
  • Reservations must be cancelled with two weeks’ notice to receive a full refund.

Can we bring flashlights?

The aquarium is an exciting place at night! The diurnal (daytime) critters hide and rest while the nocturnal (nighttime) critters come out and are active.  To let the diurnal animals relax and see the nocturnal animals in action, we ask that you do not bring a flashlight with you. We will provide a red lens flashlight for you.

Is there power available in the sleepover areas?

Power inside the sleeping areas is very limited. Please ensure your cell phones are fully charged prior to the sleepover.
