We go to almost every aquarium at every place we visit and we enjoy them all almost equally. This one has a 3D humpback whale exhibit and it’s immersive like sitting in a planetarium. It was amazing (and included with your admission ticket). The picture for printing with the inserted background was problematic because nobody seems to know how the process works. You scan the QR code from the card they give you, you stand and take a selfie but after that, good luck getting a printout. The one kiosk’s card reader wasn’t working, the other one inside the whale exhibit was frustrating. The pictures are full of ads and watermarks. When we tried to pick ones for printing, the ones without the fluff were not given as an option. We didn’t want to risk printing with all the ads and watermarks so we ended just getting the digital ones since people seemed confused about where to get the pictures. Besides this, the aquarium was nice. The gift shop is really big but everything seems overpriced. I think it’s just because it’s Hawaii. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They didn’t have a large selection of stuffed animals. We got a stuffed whale at the Walmart instead. 😂 Loved the sea turtles; the little octopus was spectacular as he changed color in front of our eyes; and they had some curiously nice looking eels (otherwise notoriously known for their ugliness 😆). Not horribly big; we did spend a good three hours at the place.

Extremely pricey for such a small aquarium. We paid $40 per person saving $5/person bc we paid online in advance. The price you see online is the discounted price and some days of the week are $45. (Residents pay $15-28.) It was very disappointing to arrive and find that parking is now paid parking at $3/hour + taxes + a service fee. If this was posted online I missed it. This added an additional $15 to our visit. With two of us this visit to the MOC came to over $100. If you are a Maui resident 5 hrs of parking is free so this is obviously another tap on visitors to the island. The exhibits/presentations are well done and it was fun to see them feed the turtles and watch the scuba diver in with the fish/sharks. More could be made of the whale movie. The venue is terrific but needs more information in the narration. I would have liked to learn more about the subjects of the movie. Sadly I don’t think we’ll return to MOC in future visits to Maui. We knowingly paid the high fee for entrance but the additional fee surprise for parking felt like a bridge too far.
