I have not been there yet because the cruise ship skipped Maui as high waves into the port. ( 3 times) Reservations were made by telephone for the senior discount - no argument when canceling my reservation. I was most disappointed to cancel! Hope to get there on this year's cruise. If this port is skipped again my husband said we could fly there next year. ( he hates to fly)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We visited **Maui Ocean Center** and also did the **Behind-the-Scenes Tour** during our recent trip to Maui, and it ended up being one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. The aquarium itself is beautifully done. It’s not massive like some mainland aquariums, but that’s actually part of what makes it special. The layout lets you get **close to the animals**, linger at exhibits, and really appreciate the marine life without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The tanks are well maintained, the exhibits are informative, and everything feels thoughtfully designed around Hawaiian marine ecosystems. The **Behind-the-Scenes Tour** took it to another level. Getting access to areas normally off-limits was fascinating, and the staff did a great job explaining how the aquarium operates day to day — from animal care and feeding schedules to coral propagation and conservation efforts. One of the highlights was being able to **feed some of the animals**, including **sea turtles**, and learning firsthand how their diets are managed. We also got an up-close look at **coral care and feeding**, which was surprisingly interesting and something you don’t often get to see explained in detail. What really stood out was how **interactive and educational** the experience was. It didn’t feel scripted or touristy — the staff clearly care about the animals and conservation, and they were happy to answer questions and share details you’d never pick up just walking through the exhibits. Overall, Maui Ocean Center strikes a great balance: **intimate, educational, and engaging** without trying to be flashy. If you’re visiting Maui and want something that’s both relaxing and genuinely interesting — especially if you enjoy marine life — the aquarium is absolutely worth visiting, and the **Behind-the-Scenes Tour** is a must-do upgrade.
