We’re delighted to introduce to you Tapani Vuori, new General Manager at Maui Ocean Center, The Hawaiian Aquarium. You may recognize him as a familiar face from the Aquarium’s Maui Ocean Treasures gift shop, where he was the director of retail since 2002, and later with front gate admissions. After a total of twelve years with the Aquarium, his advancement within the company signals a new focus and commitment to becoming better partners with the community in all fronts including environmental stewardship and education for both residents and visitors alike.
“I’m excited and humbled to move forward as general manager and I see a lot of possibilities for us to deepen our relationships with the Maui, Hawaiian, Marine Science, and Education communities. We are committed to our mission, which is to foster understanding, wonder, and respect for Hawaii’s marine life while working alongside others in the community such as schools and experts in the marine science field,” said Tapani.
Tapani was born in Finland and after serving in the military, he arrived in the U.S. to pursue higher education. In 1987, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1987. He currently resides in Kahului with his wife Ellen and their dog Humu. He enjoys spending time with family and exercising, which includes golfing and swimming in the ocean.
