Exploring Maui in November: A Seasonal Guide

June 30, 2025

While November starts the transition from dry summers to more wet winters in Maui, visitors coming to our wonderful island will experience warm temperatures and plenty of fun. November really is a sweet spot for people, beating the bustling holiday crowd while still enjoying everything Maui has to offer. Because Maui marks the start of whale watching season, November is an extra special time to view the incredible animals that are koholā (humpback whales).

We know packing and planning can be stressful. But you’re coming to Maui and that sense of wonder should start immediately. We’ve prepared this guide for you so traveling in November is just a little bit easier.

Maui Weather in November

Daytime temperatures can range from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit, with evenings cooling down to the high 60s. Despite November leaning towards the start of the rainy season, showers are usually quick. The temperature of the water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, landing somewhere in the high-70s Fahrenheit. It’s not surprising that November starts the beginning of whale watching season, as humpback whales start to arrive in our warm Hawaiian waters.

November Activities to Do in Maui

Experience Whale Watching

Whale watching for many visitors is an absolute must-do activity. From November to April, humpback whales journey from Alaska to the warm, protected waters around Maui to breed and mate. While you can witness these majestic animals from many locations, our center is actually a prime viewing spot, as we’re positioned right on Māʻalaea Harbor. You can always take a whale watching tour by boat, but some other land locations include Mākena Beach Park and Papawai Point.

Hike in Haleakalā National Park

Even if you’re not a seasoned hiker, or one to hike at all, many hiking trails around our island are accessible and fun to explore. A prime example is Haleakalā National Park, a sought after destination for both visitors and locals. There’s so much to do in Haleakalā that we encourage you to read more here, but if you’re interested in other hiking spots, be sure to check out ʻĪao Valley State Park and the Kapalua Coastal Trail.

Drive the Road to Hāna

We encourage all visitors to carve out a day and embark on the legendary Road to Hāna. This 64.4-mile route is iconic and is so much more than just a highway. With countless stops along the way, like Twin Falls, the Garden of Eden Arboretum, and Waiʻānapanapa State Park, you’ll experience an absolutely memorable time and tons of must-see Maui spots all in one day.

Have a Snorkeling Adventure

From the beautiful coral reefs of Honolua Bay and Nāpili Bay to the famous Molokini Crater, Maui offers an incredible opportunity to experience life beneath the waves. There are so many fish, honu (sea turtles), and other diverse marine life that you’ll see up close and personal when you snorkel in the warm Maui waters of November. We ask that you remember to always use reef-safe sunscreen and maintain responsible ocean etiquette to help protect our delicate coral reefs.

Hawaiian Cuisine to Try in November

Fresh, local ingredients shine in November. Truth is, our ingredients are fresh and delicious year round, but in November, there’s that extra level of flavor for Hawaiian cuisine. Staple dishes to look for include kalua pig, a refreshing poke bowl, and the amazing comfort of loco moco, rice topped with a hamburger patty, fried egg, and gravy. You’ll find that certain dishes will incorporate food like avocados and citrus fruits, all of which are in peak season. You can’t leave Maui in November without at least sampling shave ice, a finely shaved ice dessert topped with syrups and other fun goodies.
